First Dentist Appointment
Ben had his first dentist appointment the other day! I was a little worried about how he would do, as lately, he has decided to arch his back, flail, whine, etc. (ah, toddlerhood), when he is not allowed to touch/do whatever he wants. But he did great (because we drugged him).
Okay, maybe we didn't drug him....but seriously, this picture? Hilarious.
The dentist caught a quick glimpse into his mouth as I dangled him upside down so he would open his mouth in a wide grin! I think the appointment was more for us to learn what they would prefer we not do - give him stuff that will stick in his teeth (like raisins - apparently a big no-no) or send him to bed with a bottle (unless there is water in it, which is okay), and to continue to brush 1-2 times a day (as he will allow).

5 Years!!
Greg and I "celebrated" 5 years of marriage last night! By "celebrated", I mean that the entire family is under the weather and we enjoyed leftovers made by my mother in law. (The dinner part was good)! I also made a salad that I read about in my Better Homes and Garden magazine, which turned out delicious (and photo worthy).
Caramelized Butternut Squash Salad with Roasted Pistachios and Goat Cheese
But, wow - 5 years? 5 years! It at once feels impossible that it has been that long AND seems like it has been so much longer when I think about all that has happened in that time. 5 years ago on the beach with not a care in the world, I definitely was not imagining celebrating our 5 year by getting barfed on by my kid. (Poor Benny)!
Assuming we are feeling up to it, Greg and I have plans to go out to dinner tonight for the "real" celebration. Wish us luck!
I cannot wait to see what the next 5 years bring (although I think we have had enough excitement in the past couple years to last us awhile) :)

One Year Check Up
Last night we had Ben's 1 year check up. I had been both dreading and looking forward to it. I had made a late afternoon appointment in the hopes that Greg could join me for this one - I was NOT excited about him having shots as it seems like he is so much more aware these days than he was at his previous appointments and I didn't want to go through that on my own. Greg had an abnormally late night at work, so he was unable to get there in time...but the good news was that when I arrived, they checked the records from his 6 month check up to find that we were off by 2 days for when he was due for shots. I guess certain ones need to have at least 6 months between the doses, so we will have to go back next week (with Greg!?) to do them. Kind of inconvenient, but I honestly was happy about it.
I was looking forward to the appointment as Ben has been not seeming himself for the past couple days. I have been constantly worried that his digestive issues as of late have been bothering him, and the night before he had been up twice in the middle of the night. He also has been SO CLINGY lately (not complaining). He actually will cry for ME..."meh mehhhhhhhh" from his crib, and has been happy to snuggle with me, nap on me, cling to my leg, etc. It's nice....but I worry that it is because he doesn't feel well.
Anyway, the appointment went great! Our doctor made me feel so much better about the amount of milk he is drinking. She said that we should aim for 24 oz a day, but to keep in mind that 1 oz of cheese (1 stick of string cheese) = 8 oz of milk. PHEW. She also recommended a daily diet of prunes and pears, which we will definitely be doing.
Weight: 21 lbs 11 oz - (25th percentile)
Height: 31 inches - (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 19 inches (90th percentile)
Our little man is long, lean with an enormous brain.

First Haircut
I pretty much delayed this haircut for as long as I possibly could. I LOVED Ben's increasingly fluffy, curly, blonde, out of control hair - but then it reached full-on mullet status....and something had to be done.
Last night, I took Ben to a little salon called "Bella and Max" at Country Village. It was adorable.
Ben sat in a train, watched "Cars" and "drove" his way through his first haircut experience.
He looks so grown up! (Sob).
Here are some of the before pics - SUPER excited about the train:

And whenever I get sad that he no longer has his "baby" look, I will look at this picture and feel okay about it. #Wow

Giving Hugs
The video quality is a little poor, but I never want to forget how quick to give hugs Ben is at this moment.
