Our time spent at The Little Gym is equal parts hilarious, enjoyable and stressful. The class Ben is in, "Super Beasts", is for kids ages 2.5 to 3. Being on the younger side of this range, (and let's be honest, more "free spirited" side), Ben is learning all kinds of lessons about following along with the class, listening to instruction, taking turns, structure and order.
One thing I am certain about (after a lot of encouragement from both the teacher and other parents) is that this is extremely common when kids start out here at the gym. I'm confident that by the end of our 14 weeks of classes that his listening skills will have improved.
Regardless of how much he actually participates in the structure of the class, I LOVE how much energy he gets out during class and he SO enjoys running around and jumping off things. He will often find another kid whom he finds amusing and will follow them all around the room.

Ben, going rogue.
Finding things to jump off. (Please note, the kid in green on the right. Ben spends a small chunk of class time trying to struggle out of my arms in that manner).
Greg giving Ben the assist doing somersaults on the balance beam - Ben was not having it when Teacher Steve tried to help.
At the end of class, they kids gather around and request stamps. This time, Ben left with stamps on both hands, both feet and his tummy. He then spends the next couple days (before they wash off) cracking up every time he notices them and shows them to us every chance he gets.
Sounds like things are going better! I think it's a super great idea to get them started at some sort or organized activity as young as you can. I see kids older than Dylan in his soccer, T-Ball, and swimming lessons that can't follow directions, pay attention or behave one bit. So I say, the earlier you get them exposed to it, the better!
